Welcome to Northern Reflections! These short devotional emails focus on a biblical passage, offering inspirational exposition, and a model prayer.
“Then the Lord said to Joshua, ‘See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men. March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days’” Joshua 6: 2-3.
Joshua fell facedown to the ground in reverence when approached by the commander of the Lord. The instructions were not to fight or flee but to march. Sometimes the Lord has us endure hardships that we might not fully understand in the moment. Life’s challenges and uncertainties often become unbearable. God’s promise to Joshua and the Israelites was to ‘deliver Jericho into their hands.’ Upon given the instruction to march, Joshua didn’t hesitate and obeyed fully. He had faith in his God to deliver, and God fulfilled his promise.
Faith says ‘yes’ when situations say ‘no.’ The Israelites then destroyed the city of Jericho after devoting it to the Lord, and the book of Joshua goes on to say that, ‘the Lord was with Joshua, and his fame spread throughout the land’ (Joshua 6:27). God’s promises are true and always in our favor. May we fall face down in the presence of God, allowing the very nature of His being to break forth in ways that even the highest barriers cannot withstand and giving us promise and victory over our most difficult circumstances.
Pray with Us
As the spring quarter comes to an end, many of our students will be preparing to graduate. The journey has been long for some and even difficult at times. Please pray that God will give them the strength to finish well and that “he who began a good work in them will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6).
