>A Clarification

>Folks,

Jim West and I are just having fun through our blogs.

Two readers have written asking me to explain what the SBL stands for and what is the issue behind my discussion with Jim West.

I apologize for not being clear about the use of the abbreviation SBL. Jim West and I are just having fun through our blogs. Nothing in my post or Jim’s post is serious; what we have written is just for fun. There is no hidden meaning in our kidding each other.

The SBL stands for the Society of Biblical Literature. The SBL is a professional association where professors of religion come together to present papers and discuss issues and topics related to the Bible. The SBL also produces a journal, the Journal of Biblical Literature, where scholars publish articles about the Old and New Testaments.

This year, the week before Thanksgiving, the SBL will meet in New Orleans. Our discussion about the registration number refers to registration number the SBL assigns to people attending the conference. So, nothing I have written about Jim West and mystical numbers is to be taken seriously. It is just kidding around.
