According to Pastor Steve Anderson, Jesus wore pants because Deuteronomy 22:5 says that it is an abomination to God for a man to wear women’s clothing. This is what the Bible says about wearing women’s clothing:
“A woman must not wear men’s clothing, nor a man wear women’s clothing, for the LORD your God detests anyone who does this” (Deuteronomy 22:5).
Now, listen to this “amazing” sermon on Deuteronomy 22:5:
Pastor Steven Anderson is wrong in his interpretation of Deuteronomy 22:5. I have already written a post on Deuteronomy 22:5. In a future post, I will address again the issue of women wearing pants. I will also respond to another erroneous interpretation of Deuteronomy 22:5 written by Dr. Kent Brandenburg.

I'm glad that you posted the video because I'm not sure I would have believed this otherwise. Seriously, whoever taught this guy hermeneutics should be slapped with a soggy fish!

Mwhitenton,
I agree with you. I wonder if he got his degree by mail or online.

The video ended just as I was getting into the sermon. Oh and someone should open a dictionary and show that guy the word anachronism.

Brandon,
To some people, anachronism is their guiding principle when they interpret the Old Testament. But, people like that do not see the anachronistic aspects of their sermons.

Anthony,
You are right. It seems that it is the same guy. I wonder whether he is for real or he is just pulling our legs. One thing you have to say about this guy: he is consistent.

Utterly astounding. I think this might even top the "pisseth against the wall" sermon.

Darrell,
I think both sermons are amazing. Another thing you can say about this preacher: he has a very fertile mind.

Dr. Mariottini,
I, too, stumbled across Steven Anderson's videos on YouTube and have been alternately amused and appalled by some of the things I have heard. You wondered if his degree came by mail or online … well, I looked at his church's website and it specifically states: "Though Pastor Anderson holds no college degree, he has memorized over 100 chapters of the Bible". Also, according to another one of his ranting sermons, for "a man" to attend a Christian college, be forced to parade around in "a dress" and "a stupid hat that looks like the top of a chimney" and then accept a degree with the title of "Master" is not only wrong, it is a blasphemous undertaking as "Scripture clearly states" that we are to call no one Master but the Lord. I find his fundamentalist mindset amusing at best and frightening at worst. Several of his sermons have included outright erroneous information such as the sermon he preached against the "Little House on the Prairie" television show and decreed that the "show's star", inferred to be Michael Landon, "died of AIDS" … a complete falsehood as Mr. Landon tragically died of pancreatic cancer. He also consistently referred to the character of the gentle, kindly Rev. Alden as "a pansy" who was "trying to dress like a Catholic priest". One can only sit back and ponder what on earth he hopes to gain by screaming judmental opinions and falshoods about a television show that has not been filmed in over 25 years.God help us.

Amy,
Thank you for this information. The answer to all this preacher does is right there in the church website: "Pastor Anderson holds no college degree."Just because he memorized 100 chapters of the Bible does not mean he has an education that prepares him to interpret the Bible correctly.I feel sorry for the people who has to listen to his sermons every week.

Just wondering if you were still planning on tackling Kent Brandenburg's exegesis and application of Deuteronomy 22:5.While anyone can find the strangest argument they like on YouTube, I think it would be far more beneficial for all spectators to compare your arguments to his. He has written extensively on the topic over at both his What is Truth blog and also the group blog Jackhammer, and I've found his arguments to be compelling Scripturally, historically and culturally.

John,
Kent's argument doesn't hold up when you look at the family structure during Moses' time. Kent believes that some how that hebrew women were putting on men's clothes to take the man's authority. His two main scriptures for this is deut. 22:5 and 1 cor 11.The funny thing is that there is no mention of male clothingin 1 cor 11.I am looking forward to the 24th. God bless.
